Lily's Fund

lily

Lily, a three-year-old purebred Dalmatian, was abandoned at the county animal shelter. She was quickly brought into the foster care program of the Humane Society as a very adoptable dog. Sadly, within a few days, Lily was diagnosed with heart worms. Medical treatment of her condition was very expensive, including two sets of x-rays, medicine, and blood test. She required eight weeks of recovery and care before she could be available for adoption. In addition, she had six extra teeth growing in the back of her mouth that were so painful to her, she could not eat. Surgery was required to extract the teeth.Once the treatments and surgery were completed, Lily regained her appetite and is now playful, loving and submissive. She joined her new family soon after being tested as heart worm negative.

Lily is one example of many dogs and cats that would make wonderful companions if their medical conditions could be addressed first. Such medical care is very expensive and if the Society cannot afford it, then that animal may not get the second chance it deserves. In order to save more deserving animals, the Humane Society established to set aside funds specifically for those animals that need medical attention before they can be adopted.

Other foster care expenses include vaccines and other medical treatment, pet food and supplies, and gasoline to carry the animals to adoption fairs. The Humane Society of Davie County spays or neuters every animal in its care before placing it for adoption. The only hope of reducing animal overpopulation is through spay/neuter programs.

Please make a donation today to help other animals like Lily get a second chance. Your donation helps to ensure proper care and faster adoption for our foster animals.
