Spay and Neuter

Each year in Davie County, NC over 1,400 animals are euthanized at the county-run animal shelter because too few local pet owners spay and neuter their pets. Spay/neuter surgery is critical to reducing animal overpopulation and euthanasia.

Spay Neuter Financial Assistance

HSDC offers financial assistance for spay/neuter surgery to Davie County residents only. The Government Assistance program provides free spay/neuter surgery to qualifying Davie County residents only. Pet owners must qualify through the health department under chapter 108A of the NC General Statutes. Qualifying programs are: Health Choice, Medicaid, Food Stamps, Foster Care/Adoption Assist., Work First, & Special Assistance. These applications can be picked up at Social Services and Storehouse for Jesus or printed from this website. Applications must be filled out and sent into the Humane Society for approval. If approved, a certified voucher will be sent back to you.

HSDC offers a monthly spay/neuter clinic transport service to all local pet owners. On the second Wednesday of each month, a van from the Humane Society of the Piedmont in Greensboro comes to the adoption center for pet pick-up. The pets are taken to the clinic for surgery, monitored overnight, and returned to Mocksville the next morning. The clinic offers very affordable pricing for surgery on both dogs and cats. Pet owners may also sign up for vaccinations for their pets. The clinic requires a current rabies vaccine for each animal; if a pet owner cannot show documentation for a current rabies vaccination, then the clinic will provide the rabies vaccination for an additional charge. Reservations and payment for the clinic transport must be made at least one week in advance.

Call the adoption center at 751-5214 for additional information on both programs.
